Our story
How Zentara got started.
In 2022, Arumugam was leading engineering at a fintech startup. Every week, the compliance team would forward another batch of failed signups — people who'd given up halfway through verification. The conversion numbers were grim. The vendor cost was worse.
He spent a weekend mapping out what a better flow would look like. Not a slide deck — actual code. By Monday morning, there was a working prototype that did face match and document OCR in under ten seconds.
That prototype became Zentara. We registered the company in March 2023, hired our first three engineers from a list of friends-of-friends, and shipped to our first customer six weeks later. They're still with us, by the way.
Today, we're 120 people across Chennai, Singapore, and Frankfurt. We process tens of millions of verifications every month. But honestly, the day-to-day still feels like that first weekend — you find a problem, you write the code, you ship it.

Arumugam has spent the last decade in Indian fintech — first as an engineer at a payments company, later leading platform teams at a mid-stage neobank. He's a terrible cook, an okay chess player, and is unreasonably proud of the office filter coffee setup.

How we got here
A short timeline of long days.
Zentara was born
Two engineers, one office in Padur, and a stubborn idea that KYC could be invisible.
First paying customer
A neobank in Bangalore took a chance on us. We celebrated with filter coffee and biryani.
100 customers
Mostly fintechs across India and Southeast Asia. Many came through word of mouth.
ISO 27001 certified
Six months of paperwork. Worth every spreadsheet — enterprise doors started opening.
Sequoia led our seed
$8M to hire, ship faster, and expand into the EU and Middle East. Zentavo VC joined the round.
Live in 195+ countries
With proper data residency. Compliance team grew from 1 to 14.

We run on dedicated GPU clusters in three regions, with hot failover and zero shared tenancy. If a region drops, your traffic moves in under five seconds — and most of the time, you'll never notice.

In 2025, Sequoia led our seed round alongside Zentavo VC, Peak XV and Accel India. The money is great. The pattern matching from people who've seen 200+ infra startups is even better.

Where we work
Three offices, one team.
Most of us are in Chennai, where we started. We added Singapore in 2024 to be closer to our APAC customers, and Frankfurt in early 2025 for EU data residency and GDPR work. Everyone meets in person twice a year — usually somewhere with good food.
